Spring 5K Races 2026
1,097 5k races · 2026/03 – 2026/05
Spring is 5K season — the distance that gets more Americans off the couch and onto a start line than any other. At 3.1 miles, the 5K is short enough to finish on willpower alone, but fast enough to reward real training. March through May is when 5K calendars explode: charity runs, color runs, Turkey Trots in reverse (spring editions), St. Patrick's Day races, Earth Day runs, and hundreds of community events that turn neighborhood streets into race courses. Spring 5Ks are how most runners start — and many never leave the distance, racing dozens per year and chasing personal bests at every one. RACE tracks every spring 5K from coast to coast, from the massive Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston (40,000 runners) to local park fun runs with 50 entries and a folding table finish line.

Spring 2026 by the Numbers
The Cooper River Bridge Run (Charleston, SC) draws 40,000 runners every April — one of the largest 10K/5K events in the US.
St. Patrick's Day 5Ks (mid-March) are among the most popular themed races of the year, with events in every major city.
Spring 5K season officially peaks in May with hundreds of charity and memorial runs held on weekends nationwide.
The 5K is America's most-raced distance with 8.9 million finishers annually — spring hosts roughly 35% of all entries.
Why Race in Spring?
New year motivation — spring 5Ks are the natural first goal for January resolution runners who've been building fitness.
Mild weather — March-May temps are comfortable for racing fast without summer heat or winter cold.
Community events — spring brings charity runs, themed runs, and community races that make 5Ks social and fun.
Low barrier — a 6-8 week couch-to-5K program starting in February has you race-ready by April.
Training Periodization
Spring 5K training takes 6-8 weeks for beginners (couch-to-5K) or 4-6 weeks for runners building speed. Key workouts: 3-4 runs per week, one interval session (400m repeats or fartlek), one easy longer run (4-5 miles), and 1-2 easy recovery runs.
