Jogging For Jakey 5K, 7th Annual

Welcome to the seventh annual Jogging for Jakey! Our yearly race, in Memory of Jacob Smotherman, enables us to raise funds to support children with both physical and cognitive challenges. This year, we are honored to be raising money for an amazing family in our community facing the challenges that accompany Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. This rare disease affects both their 8-year-old son & 5-year-old daughter. SMA is a genetic condition affecting the motor neurons, leading to progressive muscle weakness, leading to day-to-day challenges such as walking and going up and down stairs. A stair lift can help mitigate these challenges, however insurance will not cover such a device. A device that can cost an upwards of $5000.
